Moreno Valley, CA (March 29, 2024) – Sadness sweeps Moreno Valley as a man lost his life in a car crash following a police pursuit initiated by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers. The pursuit, which began shortly after 1 a.m. at Perris and Sunnymead boulevards, ended in a devastating collision that resulted in one fatality and serious injuries to two other passengers.
According to CHP Officer Javier Navarro, the pursuit commenced when a patrol officer observed a Kia K900 traveling southbound on Perris Boulevard, disregarding a steady red traffic signal and operating without illuminated headlights. Upon attempting a traffic enforcement stop, the motorist failed to comply, accelerating to speeds of up to 90 mph and driving recklessly through various streets.
The pursuit reached its tragic conclusion on Gentian Avenue, where the Kia driver lost control of the vehicle, colliding with two parked vehicles. The impact trapped all three passengers inside the Kia, necessitating extrication by emergency personnel. The driver was swiftly apprehended following the crash.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics administered treatment at the scene before transporting the passengers to Riverside University Medical Center with severe injuries. Sadly, the right front-seat passenger, whose identity has not been disclosed, succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
The condition of the other passengers remains critical, though they are expected to recover from their injuries. It remains unclear whether the driver of the Kia was hospitalized or booked into jail; however, Officer Navarro indicated that the driver appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the pursuit.
