Gardena, CA (February 12, 2024) Today, we were reminded of just how fragile human life is and how quickly it can be destroyed. The city of Gardena has experienced a plethora of tragedy recently in the form of pedestrian deaths. One such incident occurred right around 4:00 a.m. on Vermont Avenue when a female pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle, according to police officers.

The sun hadn’t even begun to rise on Monday morning as a female pedestrian headed out, in the dark, on foot. As she moved along Vermont Avenue, a southbound vehicle, driven by a woman, approached the pedestrian. Before either party knew what was happening, the vehicle struck the pedestrian at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard. The driver remained at the scene and waited for authorities to arrive following the accident.

Police officers and paramedics hurried to the scene, their lights flashing brightly in the early morning darkness. They found the pedestrian lying in the roadway, motionless. Paramedics discovered that she had sustained life-threatening injuries and quickly loaded her into the ambulance. They continued to perform life-saving measures as they rushed her to the nearest hospital to receive treatment. Medical personnel did everything they could, but the woman did not survive her injuries. With heavy hearts, they pronounced her dead at the hospital, officers reported.
