Indio, CA (February 8, 2024) The Indio community is shocked by the sudden loss of one of their own on a dark, February morning. 29-year-old Yordi Jose Del Toro Mendoza lost his life on Sunday, February 4th, in a two-vehicle collision in Indio. This fatal crash took place at the intersection of Requa Avenue and Monroe Street, right around 2:43 a.m. Many in the community have said that Mendoza’s presence in the community will not be forgotten.

As Mendoza approached the intersection of Requa Avenue and Monroe Street, another vehicle was also approaching from a different direction. The Indio Police Department is still not sure what led up to this fatal accident, but for reasons still unknown, the two vehicles collided in the intersection. The quiet, dark morning was suddenly filled with squealing brakes and colliding metal. The intersection was littered with debris from the crash.

Cal Fire received a 911 call just before 2:45 a.m., reports indicated. They sent a crew to the scene where they found two badly damaged vehicles sitting in the middle of the intersection. They were quick to give medical attention to those in need, but found Mendoza trapped inside his vehicle with serious injuries. Firefighters worked as fast as they could to extricate Mendoza from his car. He was then rushed to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m.
