Carson City, Nevada (January 29, 2024) A community has been shrouded in sadness following the tragic death of 14-year-old Lexi Rodriguez on Sunday evening, January 28th. In a press release, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong stated that the tragic accident occurred at the intersection of Nye Lane and North Carson Street right around 5:30 p.m.

Rodriguez was walking with her boyfriend within a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident. As the two crossed the street within the crosswalk, a vehicle drove through the intersection, hitting the 14-year-old Rodriguez. One minute, they were laughing and talking as they walked, and the next minute, she was gone.

Amazingly, the boyfriend was uninjured in this collision. He remained by his girlfriend’s side until emergency personnel arrived. The driver of the vehicle also remained at the scene following the accident. Officers with the Nevada State Police reported that he was cooperative during their investigation.

Paramedics at the scene attempted life-saving measures on Rodriguez, but even after all of their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rodriguez was a student at Carson High School. The Carson City School District is working with the Carson City Sheriff’s School Resource Officers to be certain that counseling services are in place for any students who may need it following this horrible accident and the loss of one of their own, authorities said.

Sheriff Furlong reported that it was dark at the time of the accident, however the street was illuminated by street lights. He also acknowledged that the crosswalk was also lit up as the two teenagers crossed the street.
