San Diego, CA (January 8, 2024) 65-year-old Rufino Canete was struck and killed by a truck in the Midway District of San Diego on Tuesday, January 2nd. Authorities reported that the tragic accident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. in the crosswalk of Sports Arena Boulevard.
It began with a truck, driven by a woman, heading north on the 3800 block of Midway Drive. A pedestrian, identified as Rufino Canete, was in the crosswalk as the vehicle approached. Authorities are still not certain what exactly happened, but it ended with the truck hitting Canete within the crosswalk.

The San Diego Fire Department rushed to the scene only to find that Canete had been killed in the collision. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
