Oceanside, CA (November 18, 2023) Two people lost their lives in a DUI collision on State Route 76 in Oceanside on Friday evening, according to the Oceanside Police Department. It happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. in the intersection of State Route 76 and Canyon Drive.

A Mercedes sedan was heading north on Canyon Drive when the driver ran a red light and was broadsided by a U-Haul Utility truck headed east on State Route 76. The crash caused the vehicles to become entangled before they collided with a Kia sedan in the left turn lane.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene only to find both occupants of the Mercedes deceased. The Oceanside Police Department requested a coroner come to the scene on State Route 76. Their identities are being withheld until their next of kin have been notified.

The drivers of the U-Haul truck and the Kia both sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities reported that paramedics treated them at the scene and they were not taken to a hospital.

A tow truck was called to the scene to remove the damaged Mercedes and crews had to clean the area of debris and glass, while investigators searched for evidence at the scene.

Oceanside police officers suspect that alcohol intoxication was a factor in this fatal collision on State Route 76. They are still investigating this accident to try and determine what exactly happened in Oceanside on Friday evening, November 17th.
