San Francisco, CA (October 10, 2023) 6 people were injured after a cable car came to an abrupt stop on a steep hill to avoid hitting a car. The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management said the accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 9th.

It happened at Washington Street and Taylor Street in the Nob neighborhood of San Francisco. Lt. Mariano Elias of the San Francisco Fire Department said the cable car operator engaged the emergency brake to avoid hitting a black Toyota Prius that was in the middle of the intersection. Passengers on the cable car were thrown forward from the force.
Fourteen people aboard the cable car were evaluated and 6 were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The cable car also became wedged into the tracks due to the sudden braking. Crews are trying to remove it.
