San Pedro, CA (October 2nd, 2023) A woman driving a U-Haul truck hit a pedestrian in San Pedro before crashing the truck. The Los Angeles Police Department said that the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on October 1st.

The woman was involved in a child custody dispute and was first reported fleeing a Target parking lot in a U-Haul truck near West Capitol Drive and North Gaffey Street. Officers said the woman was in her 30s and had already been contacted by officers when she got into the truck and fled. She then seemed to intentionally strike a female pedestrian.
The pedestrian was injured and treated at the scene. She is expected to recover.
Police pursued the U-Haul truck until it crashed into a tree near the intersection of West Paseo Del Mar and Gaffey, in Point Fermin Park. The suspect sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment before they took her into custody.
