Bakersfield, CA (September 15, 2023) A pedestrian was killed early Saturday morning when a vehicle struck them on Taft Highway. The California Highway Patrol said the driver couldn’t see the pedestrian in the roadway.

It all happened around 2:31 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023. A 60-year-old man from Bakersfield was driving west on Taft Highway, approaching Harrison Street, in the dark. At the same time, a 34-year-old pedestrian was unable to be seen until the last minute. The California Highway Patrol reported that the driver couldn’t avoid the pedestrian once he could see him.
The pedestrian, a Taft man, was pronounced dead at that scene. The driver had stopped following the accident and cooperated with authorities. The collision remains under investigation.
