Bakersfield, CA (August 31, 2023) A man riding a Bird scooter was hit by a car in East Bakersfield on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023. The Bakersfield Police Department said the accident took place around 8:00 p.m.

BPD said the man on the scooter was riding from Canteria Drive and entering Eastbound Highway 178. At the same time, a vehicle was traveling east on Highway 178 and the man on the scooter pulled out in front of the car. The car hit him, the force throwing him onto the center divider.
The scooter rider suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment. The Bakersfield Police Department reported that the man was in critical condition.
The driver of the car was not injured.
