Perris, CA (August 2, 2023) A pickup plunged off an overpass this afternoon in Perris and landed upside down on the road below, hitting at least one vehicle. According to the California Highway Patrol, 3 people were injured and the freeway had to be partially closed.
The crash occurred at the Placentia Avenue overcrossing at southbound I-215 at approximately 3:25 p.m. The driver of a black pickup lost control on the overpass and crashed through the guardrail. The pickup landed upside down in the number 1 lane on the freeway below. A red SUV, driving on the freeway, collided with the pickup seconds after it fell from the overpass.
Riverside County Fire Department arrived on the scene 15 minutes after the collision occurred and found the driver of the pickup trapped. They had to shut down all southbound lanes while they worked to free the driver from his pickup. The pickup driver and the two people in the SUV were taken to a regional trauma center for treatment they received during the collision.
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating this accident.
