San Diego, CA (August 2, 2023) An individual riding a motorized scooter was injured when a vehicle hit them. Officer David O’Brien of the San Diego Police Department said the collision took place on the 600 block of 14th Street at approximately 10:41 p.m. on Tuesday.

The person riding the motorized scooter, a 66-year-old woman, tried to cross the intersection even though the crosswalk sign flashed the “don’t walk” signal. A 2020 Acura, driven by a 36-year-old man, entered the intersection from 14th street. Officer O’Brien said the driver had a green light and proceeded, unaware of the woman in the intersection.
The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Authorities said her injuries are life-threatening. The San Diego Police Department Traffic Division units are investigating the accident.
