Lakewood, CA (July 3rd, 2023) Authorities have reported that a multi-vehicle accident on the 605 Freeway in Lakewood resulted in the tragic death of a 54-year-old man. The man has been identified as Kelly Drake by the Medical Examiner’s office.
The collision, which involved seven vehicles, took place at 8:14 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway at Carson Street, as stated by California Highway Patrol Officer Stephen Brandt.
According to a news reporter present at the scene, the chaos began with a two-car accident at the Carson Street off-ramp. Several other vehicles were unable to stop in time to avoid the initial accident, leading to the larger pileup.
Drake was reported to have been a passenger in one of the cars involved. Another individual was transported to a hospital due to injuries from the incident.
In response to the incident, all but the far-right southbound lane were closed for investigation and cleanup, Officer Brandt disclosed.
