(Chula Vista, California) On October 12th, before 8:30 a.m., multiple vehicles were affected by a chain reaction in Chula Vista street causing four people, including three children, to suffer from superficial to life-threatening injuries.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, a Toyota Camry struck a Mazda 6 while leaving a parking lot in the 1000 Block of Fourth Avenue. Due to the impact, the Mazda lost control and crashed into a Dodge Durango vehicle .

When Paramedics arrived, they found a Juvenile passenger in the Mazda vehicle in critical condition. Two boys in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and the 31-year-old Mazda driver sustained non life-threatening injuries.

The 24-year-old Dodge driver, including a child, were also taken to a medical center for precautionary examination. The driver of the Toyota Camry did not sustain injuries.

Legal Analysis on the Chula Vista Street Crash

When a vehicle gets hit by another vehicle, causing it to lose control, it’s possible that investigators may review speed laws.

The driver of the Toyota may have been speeding over the legal or reasonable limit which caused impairment to the Mazda vehicle. In California Vehicle Code 22350, it prohibits drivers from increasing their speed than is reasonable. The driver likely violated this law and may be punished based on his speed. If the driver drove above 100 mph, under California Vehicle Code 22348 he can get fined $500.

The driver may have been impaired with alcohol or drugs. If that was the case, investigators would review California Vehicle Code 23152. This law strictly prohibits driving under the influence of any alcoholic beverages or drugs. If the driver violated this law, he or she may face serious imprisonment.

When a person causes an injury to another person due to driving under the influence, they may face 6 months in jail under California Vehicle Code 23554. The driver would likely face that amount if proven he or she was under the influence when they struck the Mazda 6.
