(Burbank, California) On Tuesday, July 28th an E-bike Collision occurred in intersection of Alameda Avenue and Hollywood Way.

Burbank Police Department confirmed that a report on the collision was received around 11 P.M on Tuesday. Both riders of the Sedan and E-bike got ejected and taken to a trauma center. A male victim fatally died from their injuries while the female is in critical conditions as listed.

Police Lieutenant Brent Fekety states that the names were not released immediately. Fekety also states that the driver of the Sedan stopped and cooperated with investigators.  Preliminary findings confirmed that the the E-bike vehicle traveled at a high speed when the collision occurred.

    E-Bike Collision Analysis

Investigators may take a look at Equipment of Vehicle Laws Code (24016) regarding speed violations. The E-bike rider was traveling at a high speed which may give investigators a reason to look into this to determine if the rider went against the speed limit. One of the following states that the motor needs to operate for the electric motor to disengage or cease to function when brakes are applied, or can operate through a switch.

Equipment of Vehicle Laws Code (24016) (2) requires that all manufacturers of electric bicycles certify that it complies with manufacturing and equipment under the requirements of electric bicycles, adopted by the United States of America.

Equipment of Vehicle Laws Code (24016) (d) states that it is a violation to change speed of bicycle unless the bike still modifies as legal and relabeled
