(Playa del Rey, CA) A man and a 1-year-old child were killed in a Vista Del Mar Lane accident early Sunday morning, May 3, after a hit-and-run crash.

The crash was reported around 4:34 a.m. near 6800 Vista Del Mar Lane, just south of Culver Boulevard. Los Angeles Police Department officers and firefighters responded to the scene after reports of a serious collision involving two vehicles. Investigators said the victims were inside one of the vehicles when the crash occurred.

Emergency responders pronounced a man, believed to be about 30 years old, dead at the scene. A woman of similar age and a 1-year-old child were transported to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities later confirmed the child died from injuries sustained in the crash, while the woman remains hospitalized.

Police said the suspect driver fled the scene on foot after abandoning a white Jeep. The individual was last seen running northbound on Vista Del Mar Lane. Officials have not released a description of the suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Overview of the Vista Del Mar Lane Accident

When a fatal crash involves a driver fleeing the scene, investigators review traffic laws carefully to understand contributing factors without assigning fault prematurely. These reviews often focus on driver responsibility, roadway behavior, and post-collision actions.

Because the driver fled on foot, officers will likely examine the Hit-and-Run Law. This law requires drivers involved in injury or fatal crashes to stop, provide identification, and render aid. Leaving the scene can delay emergency care and complicate investigations. Authorities will work to identify the suspect through evidence and witness accounts.

If multiple vehicles were involved, investigators may also review the Following Too Closely Law. This law requires drivers to maintain a safe distance to avoid collisions. Insufficient spacing can increase the risk of serious crashes, especially at higher speeds. Investigators will assess vehicle positioning before impact.

When speed or control is considered, police may examine the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to travel at speeds that are safe for roadway and traffic conditions. Early morning conditions can affect visibility and reaction time. These factors are often central to understanding a Vista Del Mar Lane accident.

    What the Family Can Do

If you have lost a loved one or are supporting someone injured in this crash, staying in contact with LAPD investigators can help you receive updates as the case progresses. You can request official reports when they become available for more clarity.

You may also consider speaking with a qualified legal professional experienced in hit-and-run cases. They can help explain your options and guide you through next steps. In addition, seeking support from family, friends, or grief counseling services can provide comfort during this difficult time.
