(Anaheim, CA) Two people were killed in an Anaheim Boulevard accident early Tuesday morning, March 31, at a busy intersection.

Anaheim Police Department officers responded around 12:45 a.m. to Anaheim Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue. Investigators said an officer observed a silver Infiniti speeding nearby before the driver turned off the vehicle’s headlights and fled. The officer did not pursue, and moments later, the Infiniti ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into three other vehicles.

The collision caused extensive damage and scattered debris across the roadway. Emergency responders arrived quickly and worked to assist multiple injured at the scene. Two people were pronounced dead, and at least two others were transported to hospitals in critical condition. Several additional victims received treatment for injuries described as not life-threatening.

Authorities identified the victims as 14-year-old Andrew Joseph Sanchez of Anaheim, a passenger in the Infiniti, and 70-year-old Alberto Viveros Piedra of Orange, who was driving one of the other vehicles. Officials have not released further details about the driver of the Infiniti. The investigation remains ongoing.

Analysis On The Anaheim Boulevard accident

When a high-speed, multi-vehicle crash occurs at an intersection, investigators review traffic laws to understand contributing factors. These reviews focus on speed, signal compliance, and driver decision-making without assigning fault prematurely.

Because the crash involved a vehicle reportedly traveling at high speed, officers may examine the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to operate vehicles at speeds that are safe for roadway and traffic conditions. High speeds can reduce reaction time and increase crash severity. Investigators will consider whether speed contributed to the impact.

If a driver ran a red light, authorities may review the Traffic Signal Law. This law requires drivers to stop at red lights and proceed only when safe. Running a red signal can create dangerous cross-traffic collisions. Investigators will evaluate whether the signal violation played a role in the crash.

When a driver operates a vehicle without headlights at night, officers may also consider the Headlight Requirement Law. This law requires headlights during darkness to ensure visibility. Driving without lights can make it harder for others to see a vehicle approaching. These factors may help explain what led to the Anaheim Boulevard accident.

    What the Family Can Do
