(Los Angeles, CA) Four people were injured in a Vanowen Street crash Saturday night, March 28, after five vehicles collided.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded at approximately 9:54 p.m. to 20232 W. Vanowen Street near Oso Avenue. Officials said multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, which left several people requiring medical attention. Emergency responders worked to assess injuries and secure the scene.

A man believed to be about 40 years old sustained critical injuries and found trapped inside one of the vehicles. Firefighters extricated him from the wreckage before he transporting him to a hospital. Another person was listed in serious condition, while two others were reported in fair condition.

All four injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities did not release additional identifying details. The cause of the crash has not been determined, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Overview On The Vanowen Street Crash

When a multi-vehicle collision occurs on a city street, investigators review traffic laws to understand contributing factors. These reviews often focus on speed, following distance, and driver awareness without assigning fault prematurely.

Because multiple vehicles were involved, officers may examine the Following Distance Law. This law requires drivers to maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead. In chain-reaction crashes, limited spacing can prevent drivers from stopping in time. Investigators may consider whether vehicles were traveling too closely together.

If speed is a factor, authorities may review the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to operate at speeds that are safe for traffic and roadway conditions. Nighttime conditions can reduce visibility and increase reaction time. Investigators may evaluate whether speed contributed to the severity of the crash.

When several vehicles collide, officers may also consider the Unsafe Lane Change Law. This law requires drivers to ensure movements can be made safely before changing lanes. Sudden or unsafe maneuvers can trigger multi-car crashes. These factors may help explain what led to the Vanowen Street crash.
