(Long Beach, CA) A speeding motorcyclist without a helmet died Friday evening, March 20, after a San Gabriel River Trail crash.

The Long Beach Police Department responded at approximately 8:15 p.m. to the San Gabriel River Trail. Officers found the motorcyclist and bicyclist receiving medical aid from bystanders. Both men were critically injured from the collision. Paramedics rushed the two injured men to a hospital. The motorcyclist was traveling southbound on the trail at high speed while the bicyclist traveled in the opposite direction. The two collided head-on on the path. Both parties were ejected from their vehicles. The motorcyclist later died from his injuries at the hospital. The bicyclist sustained critical injuries from the impact.

Witnesses stated the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed on the trail. The motorcyclist wore no helmet while riding. The motorcycle had no lights on during the collision. Police stated the motorcyclist’s vehicle had no proper safety equipment.

Analysis of the San Gabriel River Trail Crash

When a fatal collision occurs between a motorcycle and bicycle, police examine traffic laws carefully. They work to identify contributing factors. These reviews focus on speed, safety equipment, and rider responsibility.

Officers may examine the Motorcycle Helmet Law. This law requires motorcycle operators and passengers to wear helmets. Helmets provide critical protection in collisions. Riding without a helmet increases injury and fatality risks. Failure to wear a helmet is a traffic violation.

Authorities may also review the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to travel at safe speeds for conditions. Speed must be appropriate for visibility and traffic. Trails have curves and pedestrian traffic requiring lower speeds. Excessive speed prevents riders from controlling vehicles and avoiding obstacles.

Police may examine the Lighting Equipment Law. This law requires motorcycles to have proper lighting equipment. Working lights help other users see motorcycles. Trails require visibility especially during evening hours. These laws help explain what caused the San Gabriel River Trail crash.

    Support for the Family

If you are related to the motorcyclist or supporting the family, contact the Long Beach Police Department. They can provide updates on the investigation. You can request official accident reports when available. The investigation will determine the exact circumstances of the crash.

An attorney with motorcycle accident experience can help the family. They can explain your legal rights and options. They can assist with claims and liability matters. Losing a loved one is devastating. Support from family, friends, and grief counseling services is important during this difficult time.

Anyone with information about the crash should call the LBPD at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or www.lacrimestoppers.org.
