(Phoenix, AZ) A woman was critically injured in a 43rd Avenue hit-and-run early Thursday morning, January 1, near the Phoenix–Glendale border.

Officers and fire crews responded just after 1 a.m. to the area of 43rd Avenue and San Miguel Avenue, south of Bethany Home Road. They found a woman who had been riding an electric scooter when she was struck by a vehicle. First responders rushed her to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver involved fled the scene, police said. Glendale officers later located the suspected vehicle nearby and detained the driver. Phoenix police arrested the man and believe impairment played a role in the crash. The investigation remains active.

Analysis on the 43rd Avenue Hit-and-Run

When a driver leaves the scene of a serious collision, investigators immediately review the Duty to Remain at an Accident Scene Law. This statute requires motorists to stop, provide information, and render aid after an injury or fatal crash. Fleeing exposes drivers to severe criminal penalties, especially when a victim suffers critical injuries.

Because impairment is suspected, officers also evaluate the Driving Under the Influence Law. This law prohibits operating a vehicle while impaired to the slightest degree by alcohol or drugs. Establishing DUI as a contributing factor is central to determining charges in the 43rd Avenue hit-and-run.

Since the victim was riding an electric scooter, investigators often consider the Duty to Exercise Due Care Law. This rule requires motorists to exercise due care when approaching pedestrians or similar vulnerable roadway users, including e-scooter riders. Reviewing lighting, visibility, and driver behavior helps clarify how the crash occurred.

    Guidance for the Family

If you are connected to the injured woman, you may request updates and eventually obtain the collision report from the Phoenix Police Department. This document can help explain the sequence of events once the investigation is complete.

You may also want to consult a personal injury attorney experienced in DUI and hit-and-run cases. They can guide you through medical-bill support, victims’ rights, and potential compensation options.

Lastly, consider reaching out to local hospital social workers or Phoenix-area victim support programs, which can offer emotional assistance and resources as your family navigates this difficult time.
