(Fresno, CA) A husband and wife were killed in a Highway 145 collision Monday night, December 29, when a suspected DUI driver struck their vehicle head-on.
The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. south of Ford Avenue. CHP says Shawn Borecha, 30, of Riverside drove southbound on Highway 145 when he attempted to pass two cars. As a result, he veered into the northbound lane. His vehicle collided head-on with a Hyundai carrying Carlos Pimentel, 69, and his wife, Maria, 62, both Coalinga residents. The couple died at the scene.
Borecha suffered minor injuries. Officers arrested him on suspicion of DUI and multiple felony charges, including manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing.
