Officers responded to the two-vehicle collision and identified the motorcyclist as Charles Kearns-Highsmith, 72. Opinion on the Bell Road Crash
When a fatal collision involves a motorcycle, investigators often review the Motorcycle Safety Law. This statute requires drivers to operate safely around motorcycles, allowing them full use of a lane and avoiding unsafe maneuvers. Applying this law helps determine whether the other motorist provided the appropriate space and caution before the Bell Road crash.
If early findings suggest lane movements or vehicle positioning contributed to the impact, officers may examine the Improper Turn and Lane Movement Law. This rule governs how drivers must make turns and lane changes safely. It is especially relevant at intersections like Bell Road and Sunrise, where heavy traffic and turning vehicles often heighten collision risks.
Speed may also be reviewed under the Reasonable and Prudent Speed Law. Investigators assess whether either vehicle was traveling too fast for roadway or traffic conditions. Understanding speed helps clarify how quickly both drivers could react in the moments leading up to the Bell Road crash.
