(San Diego, CA) A 26-year-old woman was hospitalized Thursday evening, December 11, after a Montezuma Road crash in the College East neighborhood.

The collision occurred around 5:17 p.m. in the 6500 block of Montezuma Road just north of El Cajon Boulevard. Police say the woman crossed mid-block from south to north. At that moment, a 28-year-old man driving an eastbound Honda Accord struck her in the number one lane.

The victim sustained several serious injuries, including fractures to her hip, pelvis, sacrum, and femur, along with a significant head laceration. Doctors determined her injuries as non-life-threatening. SDPD’s Traffic Division is investigating and asks anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Overview on the Montezuma Road Crash

When a pedestrian is crossing outside a crosswalk, investigators often review the Outside Crosswalk Safety Law. This law requires pedestrians crossing mid-block to yield to approaching vehicles. At the same time, drivers must still exercise due care. Officers will evaluate sightlines, lighting, and whether the driver had a reasonable opportunity to see the pedestrian.

Because the impact occurred in an active traffic lane, analysts may also reference the Right-of-Way for Pedestrians Law. Although this statute primarily applies to marked crosswalks, its emphasis on driver caution helps investigators determine whether the motorist slowed appropriately or took reasonable action to avoid the collision.

Investigators may further consider the Basic Speed Law. This rule requires motorists to drive at speeds that are safe for conditions, including evening visibility and pedestrian activity in mixed-use corridors. Reviewing this law helps clarify whether speed contributed to the Montezuma Road crash.

    Support for the Family

If your loved one was injured in this collision, you should request the official SDPD collision report once it becomes available. It will provide important details that can assist with medical and insurance steps.

You may also want to speak with a personal injury attorney who can guide you through options for covering treatment, rehabilitation, and potential long-term care needs.

Above all, lean on community support, friends, and family. Recovery from sudden trauma can be overwhelming, and compassionate assistance can help you navigate the difficult days ahead.
