(Los Angeles, CA) A man was killed early Sunday morning, November 16, in a San Bernardino Freeway crash involving two vehicles in the Boyle Heights area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 4:30 a.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway near the Cesar Chavez Avenue on-ramp. The crash involved two dark-colored sedans, pronouncing one man dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending family notification.

Authorities issued a SigAlert at 6:40 a.m., closing the No. 2 and 3 lanes of the westbound freeway for several hours while investigators processed the scene. The alert was canceled at 8:13 a.m. The SigAlert caused a back-up of traffic for miles during the morning commute.

No additional details about the cause of the crash have been released as the CHP continues its investigation.

Overview on the San Bernardino Freeway Crash

When two vehicles collide on a high-speed roadway, investigators often begin with the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to operate at speeds that are safe for current traffic, weather, and visibility conditions. Even if within posted limits, driving too fast for conditions can lead to deadly freeway crashes.

If one vehicle made a sudden lane change before the collision, the Unsafe Lane Change Law may apply. It requires drivers to signal and ensure it is safe before changing lanes. Failure to do so can easily cause a multi-lane collision.

Additionally, the Following Too Closely Law directs drivers to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Rear-end or chain-reaction crashes often stem from insufficient spacing at freeway speeds. These statutes will guide CHP investigators as they determine what caused the San Bernardino Freeway crash.

    Support for the Family

You should stay in contact with the California Highway Patrol’s East Los Angeles Office for updates on the investigation and to request the official collision report once it is available. This report will help your family understand how the crash occurred and what factors were involved.

When ready, you may wish to consult an attorney experienced in freeway and wrongful-death cases. They can explain your legal rights and guide you through potential next steps toward accountability.

Above all, take time to grieve and seek comfort. Family, friends, and community support resources in Los Angeles can help you navigate the emotional and practical challenges following this sudden and tragic loss.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
