(Los Angeles, CA) One person was hospitalized following a West Orange Street collision Saturday evening, October 25, that sent one of the vehicles crashing into an apartment building in the Beverly Grove neighborhood, officials said.

According to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton, the crash occurred around 5:34 p.m. in the 6500 block of West Orange Street at Sweetzer Avenue. Upon initial investigation, authorities learned a silver Range Rover and a red Volkswagen Beetle were involved in the incident.

A video submitted to the LAFD showed the SUV lodged against the side of a two-story apartment building, with the Beetle stopped nearby. When paramedics arrived, they transported one person to a local hospital in an unknown condition.

Firefighters remained at the scene until inspectors from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety could assess potential structural damage to the building. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Overview on the West Orange Street Collision

When two vehicles collide and cause property damage or injury, investigators may look to the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to maintain a speed that is reasonable and safe for current road and traffic conditions. If either driver traveled too fast for the narrow residential area, it could have contributed to the impact.

If a vehicle left its lane and struck a building, the Unsafe Turning or Lane Change Law could also apply. It states that a driver must not turn or move from a lane until it is safe to do so. Investigators will review whether one of the drivers failed to ensure the maneuver could be made safely.

Because the collision resulted in property damage, California Vehicle Code 20002 may also be relevant. This law requires drivers involved in any property-damage crash to stop and provide identifying information. It ensures accountability when crashes, such as the West Orange Street collision, damage nearby structures.

    Guidance for the Family

You should stay in contact with LAFD or LAPD investigators to learn more about the cause of the crash and the condition of the injured person. Keeping records, including medical updates and repair estimates, can help support any future insurance or legal matters.

If you own or live in the affected building, consider speaking with your property insurer about possible claims for structural damage. Consulting with an attorney experienced in vehicle-into-building incidents can also help clarify next steps.

Finally, it’s important to take care of your emotional well-being. Crashes like this can be unsettling, even for those not directly injured. Lean on trusted friends, family, or community support as you process the aftermath.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
