(Pacoima, CA) A Golden State (5) Freeway collision involving a motorcycle injured a rider and disrupted traffic during the Wednesday morning commute.

On Wednesday, September 17, at about 4:50 a.m., the Golden State (5) Freeway collision occurred. According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened on the southbound lanes near Osborne Street in Pacoima.

Emergency crews responded and found a motorcycle down on the freeway. The rider sustained injuries, though their condition has not yet been released. A separate car fire broke out slightly north of the crash site, further blocking lanes. Traffic quickly backed up across the busy route.

At one point, authorities reduced three lanes to one at the connector to the southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway. Officials issued a SigAlert at 5:45 a.m. due to the Golden State (5) Freeway collision, which left commuters facing significant delays.

This tragic accident is a reminder of just how dangerous motorcycles can be, especially for beginners. Understanding these dangers is the first step toward preventing future crashes.

Legal Opinion on the Golden State (5) Freeway Collision

A lawyer speaks to a client regarding an accident.

The Golden State (5) Freeway collision highlights common legal issues surrounding motorcycle accidents in California. Since the crash injured the rider and snarled traffic, investigators will look closely at fault and roadway conditions. If another driver contributed, California Vehicle Code 22107 could apply. This law prohibits unsafe lane changes that endanger others. Motorcycles are especially vulnerable to sudden maneuvers by cars.

If following too closely caused the accident, California Vehicle Code 21703 would be relevant. It requires drivers to maintain a safe distance, giving themselves time to react to sudden stops. Rear-end crashes involving motorcycles can be particularly severe. Speed is another factor. California Vehicle Code 22350, the Basic Speed Law, requires motorists to drive only at speeds safe for current conditions, such as darkness and heavy traffic. If a driver traveled too fast to avoid the motorcycle, liability may result.

The injured motorcyclist has the right to file a personal injury claim if another driver’s negligence caused the crash. Such claims may cover medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and long-term rehabilitation needs.

What the Injured Rider Can Do

The motorcyclist should contact a personal injury attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can obtain the CHP accident report, review traffic camera footage, and speak with witnesses to determine how the crash unfolded. If another vehicle caused the collision, the rider could pursue compensation through the at-fault driver’s insurance.

Taking swift legal action after the Golden State (5) Freeway collision helps preserve evidence and ensures the injured rider receives the support needed for recovery.

We at Accident News Now extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim. We know this is a difficult time as you mourn the tragic and sudden loss of a loved one.
