(Studio City, CA) What started as a hit-and-run collision turned into a pursuit in Studio City.
On Friday, April 25 at 9:30 a.m., Officer Kevin Terzes of the Los Angeles Police Department reported the hit-and-run occurred on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, then shortly turned into the Studio City pursuit.
When the pursuit first happened, reports came in of a woman who stole a pickup truck struck a man while speeding. While medical personnel assessed the victim, the man declined transportation to a hospital for further treatment.
As a result, officers dispatched to detain the hit-and-run driver, which took them over canyon roads all the way to Coldwater Canyon. While being chased, the woman struck another vehicle and a fire hydrant. In an effort to stop the car, police deployed spike strips, flattening the truck’s two front tires. Despite this effort, the vehicle kept going until it stopped in front of some residences.
In an attempt to end the Studio City pursuit, officers shot out the heavily tinted windows with bean bags until a woman wearing a pink T-shirt briefly exited the truck before getting back inside.
A short time later, LAPD SWAT team arrived and boxed the pickup truck with armored trucks. They even deployed non-lethal gas into the car three times. After the third deployment, at 12:38 p.m., the pursuit finally came to an end when the woman exited the vehicle and SWAT officers took her into custody.
