(Hollywood, CA) A woman was killed early Wednesday morning, November 12, in a Sunset Boulevard hit-and-run after another driver in a reportedly stolen Range Rover slammed into her vehicle at a Hollywood intersection, police said.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers from the Hollywood Division were called at about 12:32 a.m. to the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Wilton Place. Investigators said the victim drove a white Mazda sedan north on Wilton. At the same time, a Range Rover traveled east on Sunset, striking the victim’s vehicle moments later.
Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and attempted to free the woman trapped inside the car, but pronounced her dead at the scene. Debris was scattered across both sides of Sunset Boulevard following the crash.
The Range Rover’s driver fled on foot and remains at large. According to reports, the SUV had been reported stolen prior to the collision. LAPD officers closed the area for several hours as they investigated. Anyone with information is urged to contact the LAPD Hollywood Division.
Overview on the Sunset Boulevard Hit-and-Run
When a driver flees a crash scene that results in injury or death, the Hit-and-Run Statute applies. This law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop, identify themselves, and render aid to any injured person. Failing to do so is a serious felony that carries severe penalties, including imprisonment.
Because the fatal collision involved a stolen vehicle, investigators may also consider the Vehicle Theft and Unauthorized Use Law. It criminalizes taking or driving another person’s vehicle without consent, particularly when it leads to additional crimes or injuries.
Finally, the Basic Speed Law prohibits driving faster than is safe for conditions. If the Range Rover was speeding before impact, that violation could further support charges once the suspect is located. Each of these statutes will guide the LAPD’s investigation into the Sunset Boulevard hit-and-run.
