Overview of the Reed Avenue Accident

When a fatal head-on collision occurs due to unsafe passing, police examine traffic laws carefully. They work to understand what led to the crash. These reviews focus on passing laws, vehicle control, and safe driving.

Officers may examine the Unsafe Passing Law. This law prohibits passing vehicles except in designated safe areas. Drivers may not enter oncoming traffic lanes to pass. Passing on rural roads with limited visibility is especially dangerous. Crossing into the path of an oncoming motorcycle creates extreme hazard.

Authorities may also review the Duty of Care Law. This law requires drivers to exercise reasonable care when operating vehicles. Drivers must see and know if the path is clear before passing. Motorcycles are smaller and harder to see on rural roads. Drivers have responsibility to avoid colliding with all roadway users.

Police may examine the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to travel at safe speeds for conditions. Speed must be appropriate for the roadway and visibility. Rural roads at dawn present unique visibility challenges. These laws help explain what caused the Reed Avenue accident.
