Santa Paula, CA (December 15, 2023) Bakersfield resident, John Sellers, 60, died following a 2-vehicle collision in Santa Paula on Highway 126. The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred on Thursday, December 14th, just after 5:30 a.m.
Ventura Communications Center received the 911 call about a collision on eastbound Highway 126, the California Highway Patrol said. Emergency response personnel arrived at the scene to find Sellers trapped inside his 2017 Jeep Compass. Firefighters used specialized tools to extricate Sellers, who was then rushed to Ventura County Medical Center. Unfortunately, Sellers later died at the hospital from his injuries.

The other vehicle involved, a 2008 Toyota Prius, was driven by a 31-year-old who remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities following the crash. There is no information as to whether or not the driver of the Prius was injured in this collision.
The California Highway Patrol said that, following an investigation, it was determined that Sellers was heading east on Highway 126, just west of Hobson Road. He was in the No. 1 lane when the Prius merged onto the highway from a private driveway. The Prius pulled right in front of Sellers, who had no time to avoid the collision. His Jeep rear-ended the Prius on the highway, according to officers.
