(Long Beach, CA) Three adults and three children sustained injuries in an East Wardlow Road DUI collision in Long Beach.

On Friday, August 22, at 5:07 p.m., the East Wardlow Road collision occurred according to the Long Beach Police Department. The incident happened at the 7500 block of East Wardlow Road, between Studebaker Road and the San Gabriel River.

When police investigated, they learned two vehicles drove westbound on Wardlow Road. At some point, they collided, sending one of the vehicles across the center median, striking a third vehicle, LBPD Lt. Rogelio Q. Trias said. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics dispatched to the East Wardlow Road DUI collision site. Upon arrival, they transported three adults and three children to a hospital for treatment. Police arrested one female driver for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Legal Opinion on the East Wardlow Road DUI Collision

The East Wardlow Road DUI collision shows the wide-reaching harm that can come from impaired driving. California Vehicle Code 23152 prohibits driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs due to the harm it can cause. When a DUI results in injuries, the charge becomes a felony under VEH 23153. That statute makes it a crime to drive under the influence and cause bodily harm to another person.

Even beyond DUI, reckless operation of a car leading to a multi-vehicle crash could be considered negligence under civil law. VEH 22350, the Basic Speed Law, requires drivers to travel only at speeds that are safe for conditions. When alcohol or drugs impair judgment, speed and control almost always become factors in serious collisions. The presence of children among the injured victims makes this crash even more troubling. Courts and juries often treat harm to minors as especially serious when calculating damages.

What the Victims Can Do

All six victims of the East Wardlow Road DUI collision have the right to file personal injury claims against the at-fault driver. These claims can cover emergency medical care, hospital stays, lost wages for parents, and emotional trauma. For the children, claims may also account for long-term care or counseling if needed. An attorney can obtain the LBPD report on the East Wardlow Road DUI collision.

The fact that police arrested the driver for DUI already provides strong evidence in support of civil claims. The victims may also seek punitive damages; additional financial penalties meant to punish and deter drunk driving. These damages are often available in DUI cases because of the extreme disregard for public safety. Taking legal action quickly is important to preserve evidence and secure insurance coverage. With so many victims and multiple vehicles involved, insurance limits may be stretched thin. Early legal support ensures each injured person receives fair compensation and that the driver is fully held accountable.
